How to have “Great” Faith (Faith of God)

The Roman Centurion

The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed.

For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
When Jesus heard it, He marveled, and said to those who followed, “Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith, not even in Israel!” – Matthew 8:8-10

!!!!!

Jesus equated understanding the principle of authority, to having “great faith.”

!!!!!

The Roman centurion understood his authority, so let me show you the authority that every believer has.

“And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.” - Matthew 10:1

What’s the keyword? All.

“Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.” – Luke 9:1

What’s the keyword? All.

“Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. – Luke 10:19

What’s the keyword? All. This is all summed up in Matthew 28:18 where Jesus said, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”

One may ask, “Oh, well if Jesus has all authority, how can I have any?”

That’s easy, because you’re hidden in Christ (Colossians 3:3), you’re one spirit with him (1 Cor 6:17), Christ lives through you (Gal 2:20), we have received His fullness (John 1:16), we are the fullness of Him (Eph 1:23) , and as He is, so are we in this world (1 John 4:17). If Jesus has ALL authority, then the devil has NONE. The enemy is defeated! (Rom 6:9, Rom 8:2, Heb 2:14, Eph 1:21-23, Col 1:13-14, Col 2:15, 2 Tim 1:10)

If you can understand the “all authority” that you have in Christ, and that the kingdom of darkness is under your authority, it will be very easy to win against the enemy.

***It is important for me to note that understanding authority directly correlates with understanding position. If you understand that you are seated and positioned “above” (Eph 1:20-23) a defeated enemy, you will naturally understand your authority over the enemy.

The last thing to understand is how someone in authority acts. How does a boss relate to an employee? A teacher to a student? A policeman to a thief? They are all similar. There is never a question who obeys who. The employee always has to do what the boss says, likewise the student to the teacher and the thief to the policeman.

Anything in the kingdom of darkness MUST obey sons of Light.

Their word is always commanding and final.

  • Bosses: “Get to work” “You’re fired” “Do this, now!”
  • Teachers: “Do your work” “Be quiet” “Sit down”
  • Policemen: “Freeze” “Hands up” “You’re under arrest”

Jesus: “Come out” “Pick up your mat and walk” “Be cleansed” “Be opened”

They don’t make phonecalls because they know the manual.

  • Bosses don’t call the CEO of the company to ask how to deal with employees.
  • Teachers don’t call the principal of the school to ask how to deal with students.
  • Policemen don’t call the headquarters of the force to ask how to deal with a law-breaker.

Jesus didn’t ask God whether it was His will to heal the sick, or cast out a demon. He understood the “manual” and didn’t need to call the Holy Spirit to see if it was the right thing to do. If you understand His Word, you will understand His heart. Jesus also didn’t ask God to heal the sick or cast out demons. He just did it.

They do not waver in their authority.

  • Even when an employee tries to usurp the boss’ instruction, the boss does not back down or allow their authority to be questioned.
  • Teachers do not allow students to question their authority, or else their classroom would be in chaos.
  • If policemen allowed a thieves to question/challenge/ their authority, they would not be doing their job. Their job is to subdue those who trespass the law of the land or those who are a threat to social life.

Conclusion: When you believe the way Jesus believed, you will see what he saw. You HAVE ALL authority in Christ. Act like it. When you understand your authority and start walking in it, you will see the sick healed and demons cast out in no time. It has more to do with understanding authority than some ethereal “gift of faith” or trying to obtain more faith. When you understand the principle of authority, it will empower you to not waver in faith. This is the faith that moves mountains.

“For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says.” – Mark 11:23

People in authority understand “that those things [they say] will be done.” People in authority have the same faith that moves mountains. Obviously, we are using this faith to set people free (Luke 4:18). If you don’t think I did an adequate job in describing how people in authority act, I’d encourage you to spend 5 minutes thinking about it yourself (about people who are in authority). I guarantee it will help you understand better how to heal the sick and cast out demons.

    Hey Brandon,
Thanks! I’ve begun to do my own research on walking in spiritual authority, and this was really helpful to continue that process. I had read today about the centurion’s great faith, and I was munching on the words–this definitely helped to break it down for me.

I’m at the point where I find myself mad when I see someone sick–mostly b.c I know I have to do something about it, but I don’t quite understand how to achieve the results I read in the Word. I also know it’s not some magic formula..simply: believe, go and do.

well, people in authotity give orders, true. But the subordinates do NOT obey. Students cheat, workers play games and read magazines instead of obeying the boss. :( (((
