Simple Faith (Faith in God)

I wrote a post about having “great” faith a few weeks ago. That post was more about having the faith of God rather than having faith in God.

Having the faith of God is like what He did when He created the world. He said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. He said, “Let God knew that what he said would be accomplished. Having the faith of God is knowing that what you say WILL happen.

The faith of God is the same faith that moves mountains (Mark 11:23). And in the context of the article I wrote previously, understanding and functioning in authority [like the Roman Centurion] is exercising the faith of God.

And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written,“I believed and therefore I spoke,”we also believe and therefore speak…
-  2 Corinthians 4:13

To exercise the faith of God, you first believe, and because you believe, you speak. You do not speak so that you believe. If you are confessing something that the Word says so that you can believe, that is called renewing your mind, that is not declaring in faith.

You declare as a result of having believed. You first believe that what you say will happen, and as a result, you speak [to the mountain].

Walking in the faith of God is often for the purpose of destroying the works of the enemy or speaking to circumstances like when you declare, “You’re healed,” “Be cleansed,” “every work of the enemy fails, NOW,” “Storm, peace, be still.”

You first believe that you have all authority, and that what you say will be done. THEN, you speak it like a king that is decreeing an ordinance.

On the flip-side, having faith in God, is for the purpose of acquiring promises for yourself (Hebrews 6:12)… so how do you have faith that acquires promises?

Here’s an example…

Abraham (Romans 4:19-21):

“And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb.” – vs. 19

So how do you not be “weak in faith?” Do not consider your physical circumstance; Abraham did not consider his own body and “the deadness of Sarah’s womb.”

Here is the word “consider” in the greek:

katanoeō (κατανοέω)

1) to perceive, remark, observe, understand

2) to consider attentively, fix one’s eyes or mind upon

Too many people consider their physical circumstance. “I don’t have money,” “I’m not healed,” “Things look hopeless.” They continually fix their attention on what they see and they don’t realize that their circumstances can change (2 Cor 4:18). They put more faith in what is seen than what God has said. That is called being being “weak in faith.”

Faith is not blind. Faith still sees the circumstance, it doesn’t ignore it. Faith just doesn’t walk by it (2 Cor 5:7), it walks what it has already seen from the beginning; faith sees the end result from the start. Faith does not consider the physical circumstance, it overrides it.

Lets continue:

“He [Abraham] did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.” – vs. 20-21

If you have unbelief, you are wavering. James says that if you waver, you are double minded and will not receive anything from God. So how do you not waver? Be fully convinced that He is able to do what He promised; be fully convinced that God can do what He said.

I have heard it once said, “faith” is “Full Assurance In The Heart,” in other words, it is being fully assured that He can do what He said.

Do you get it?

Biblical faith isn’t about you trying to have perfect faith. It is about understanding His faithfulness.

Even in the natural, if I promise you something, how much faith does it take to “acquire” my promise? If I promise you something, the weight of responsibility is on me. Why? Because I promised. If I promised, I have to do it. That is the nature of promises. No one makes promises if they cannot perform it.

In the Kingdom, your ONLY job is to count Him faithful who promised. Your only job is to actually believe that if God promised it, then He will actually do itSimple as that. As a result of his faith, Abraham was accounted righteous.

Here’s Abraham’s wife in the Hall of Faith (Hebrews 11).

Sarah:

“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.” – vs. 11

What did Sarah do to get into the “hall of faith?” She judged Him faithful. Sarah simply thought, “Ok, God is faithful. So if He says something, I believe it.” And then God turns and says, “Hey!!! That’s faith!”

Simple.

Count God faithful in what He has promised and that he is able to perform what He has said He will do.

If you can get this, you will never need to waver again. It is very simple. What it really boils down to, is believing that He is faithful, and so everything He has said about you, or your circumstances is true. His word is good (Psalm 138:2)

Most people are struggling and it is because they don’t know the promises (Hosea 4:6). That is why they need to get into the Word and find out what has been promised. How can you put faith in what you don’t know?

Find out what He has already promised. Read His Word. It is NOT a religious exercise. It is getting to know the heart of God towards you and world (Matt 12:34). It is not about getting to know “words” it is about getting to know the Author and finisher of your faith.
